Switzerland. Rhine Ports and Port Autonome de Strasbourg Discuss Digitalization

The delegations of the Port Autonome de Strasbourg and the Swiss Rhine Ports met last week to exchange ideas with RheinPorts on the further development of digital solutions for inland ports.

The focus of the discussions was the RiverPorts Planning and Information System (RPIS), which has been developed as the world’s first Multi Port Community System specifically for inland navigation. While so-called Port Community Systems (PCS) have been established in seaports for years, RPIS adapts this concept to the requirements of inland ports and their logistics partners.

The platform enables standardized and efficient data exchange between ports, terminal operators, shipping companies, and other stakeholders along the transport chain. This simplifies processes, provides information more quickly, and improves collaboration among the participants. At the same time, the system lays the foundation for a shared digital port infrastructure and supports the further digitalization of inland navigation.

With each additional connected port, the benefits of the network grow. Stronger digital networking increases transparency along the transport chains, improves the planning of port calls, and helps make processes more efficient. This benefits both port operators and logistics companies as well as shippers.

The ports of Strasbourg and the Swiss Rhine Ports aim to further expand their collaboration in this area. Together, they are committed to advancing the digitalization of Rhine shipping and strengthening the competitiveness of the inland waterway transport mode. The goal is to contribute to more efficient, transparent, and sustainable logistics chains along the Rhine through modern digital solutions.
