Kardex automates distribution center for Groupe Madrigall

Kardex has received the mandate from Groupe Madrigall, a major publishing group in France, to implement an integrated automation solution for a new distribution center. Groupe Madrigall is the parent company of renowned publishers such as Gallimard, Flammarion, and Casterman.

Automation solution with AutoStore technology

At the heart of the planned solution is an AutoStore system that includes approximately 300,000 storage containers and 300 robots. Kardex will also provide a Warehouse Control System (WCS) and will take on the integration of various automation components. These include conveyor technology, carton handling, and robotic palletizing. The solution aims to achieve a high goods throughput while optimizing storage density, operational efficiency, and system flexibility. Additionally, Kardex will offer long-term maintenance and lifecycle services to ensure the reliable operation of the facility throughout its entire lifespan.

Centralization of distribution activities

Dominique Wettstein, Managing Director Distribution of Groupe Madrigall, emphasizes: „The gradual consolidation of our picking and shipping activities in a central automated distribution center represents an important advancement in the development of our distribution network. The project start is planned for the coming months, pending the issuance of the outstanding regulatory approvals. The commissioning of the new high-throughput distribution center is scheduled for June 2028.
